Listen to the Breathing of Someone Snoring

You will find it to be noisy and often through the mouth.  If the person has obstructive sleep apnea, you may hear a snore followed by complete silence as they stop breathing for a period of up to a minute or longer.

Snoring and Breathing

Snoring is a sound created from turbulent airflow.  It is noisy breathing during sleep caused by the exchange of a large volume of air through a narrowed space, which in turn causes the tissues of the nose and throat to vibrate.

Mouth snoring: vibration of the soft palate.

  • Stops when mouth is closed during sleep.

Nose snoring: turbulent airflow in the nasopharynx and oropharynx. To reduce nasal snoring:

  • Decongest the nose and reduce flow of breathing using tailored breathing exercises.
  • Exercise regularly in proper alignment (posture), while comfortably breathing only through the nose:  improving mental, physical and emotional performance and stamina.

Functional Breathing starts where?

  • The mouth is for eating & speaking.

  • The nose is for immunity & breathing.

NO (Nitric Oxide)

The Body's First Line of Defense

Given its anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties.

After the Nose

Most NO is built up in the nasal cavity.  The only way to harness nasal NO is to inhale slowly through the nose to allow for absorption throughout the respiratory system, and thus allow for greater oxygen uptake to the heart and brain.

CO2 (carbon dioxide)

The Body's Primary Stimulus to Breathe

Developing a habit of breathing lightly and slowly allows for a deeper, quieter breath:

as well as a deeper, quieter sleep.

Form Follows Function.

Postural awareness during meditation (seated or in motion) is key to Functional Breathing, beginning with the proper placement of the tongue.  Proper skeletal alignment frees up the diaphragm (the body's main breath and skeletal stabilizer) for movement and breath. It starts by finding connection and awareness.

Accessible Yoga

Accessible Yoga

Every Body has its own unique set of limitations in terms of how yoga is practiced and in terms of finding the time to practice.  Yoga is accessible whenever and wherever one finds connection, on and off the mat.  Yoga connects the mind with the body and the breath.  It is a practice for life.  Finding time and space is no longer an issue.

Less is More

I teach the basic essentials that anyone can access and incorporate into any practice:  that can be taken anywhere, really.

A place of Knowing.

Peace.

The will to be well is vitally important.

My intention is share with you the knowledge and practices that have helped me to find

and sustain optimal function and vitality

with steadiness

and ease.

Be Where Your Feet Are

Come to your Senses

Often our thoughts are not where we are:   not in the same place or time.  Our minds have taken a quantum leap, likely tangled in some kind of story telling that's not serving any purpose right now.  Find your feet and make connection.

"Healthy habits are learned in the same way as unhealthy ones: through practice." -- Wayne Dyer

Why the Buteyko Breathing Method

Knowing comes from Application

I credit my husband who found the Buteyko Breathing Method (BBM) through his FDN (Functional Diagnostic Nutrition) practitioners' channels while searching for answers to our son's adenoid condition.  Had it not been for this valuable training I received I would not have been able to navigate though the forthcoming years.

We had just begun to see positive results in our son's adenoid condition with just applying the BBM, when we moved into a heavily toxic environment, with extremely high levels of aspergillus and penicillium molds among many other species throughout our home, including some "black mold."  Our health began a rapid decline in just weeks.  Thank goodness my husband's first answer to any health question is: "Don't Guess.  Test."  And, thank goodness he did.  With Buteyko Breathing sleep apnea is a distant nightmare.

Discover the benefits of learning from an experienced Buteyko Breathing trainer. Restore nasal breathing 24/7 using simple breathing exercises tailored to meet your individual needs and sleep better than ever before.

Whether you're considering embarking on or recovering from airway surgery or hope to avoid it altogether; or if you are having a difficult time sleeping soundly through the night, I can make Breathing Re-Education accessible to you safely with ease.

still: adj 1: motionless 2: silent ~vb: make or become still ~adv 1: without motion 2: up to and during this time 3: in spite of that ~n: silence.

"The perfect man breathes as though he is not breathing at all."
